Filter coffee machineIf you having trouble deciding what type of coffee machine to buy – filter coffee machine, espresso machine or a cappuccino maker – how about buying one of each?

The BCO261 is a combi espresso machine that can prepare excellent espresso, cappuccino or filter coffee.  Not only does it use ground coffee, it also uses Easy Serving Espresso (ESE) pods to deliver an ultimate fresh coffee aroma.

The espresso system is powered by a high-performance, professional level 15 bar pump pressure and features a self-priming system and adjustable steam emission.  It has a stainless steel boiler, a removable water tank with level indicator and a removable drip tray.

The built-in cappuccino system perfectly mixes milk, steam and air to achieve a rich and creamy froth for a great cappuccino.

The filter coffee machine has a 10-cup capacity and a carafe warming plate. There is a flavour selector to choose the desired coffee aroma, an automatic drip-proof device and a removable water reservoir.

THE PROS

  • The filter coffee machine is very easy to use and the flavour selector is a great addition that you will normally find on much more expensive machines;
  • Great build quality for the price;
  • Easy to clean.  The milk frother/steamer attachment comes apart so can be easily cleaned after use.

THE CONS

  • Although the build quality is good, it does look ‘plasticky’ when you see it in the flesh;
  • Out of the three options the filter and espresso are much better than the cappuccino maker; you may be disappointed if you buy this machine for the cappuccino;
  • Please don’t be surprised by the size of this machine.  At 5kg and 23 x 38 x 33 cm it won’t sit inconspicuously on you worktop (in fact it is a similar size to a microwave).

TOP TIPS

  • Don’t tamp the coffee too hard in the holder you get a much better coffee if it is not too compact;
  • It would be wise to invest in a decent descaler, especially if you live in a hard water area.  De’longhi do their own descaler but this is expensive.

THE VERDICT
Yes there are faults with this machine and you may be surprised at the size of the machine, but it will be difficult to buy three separate machines that produce the quality of this coffee for a comparable price – 4/5

I’ve never owned a filter coffee machine and I don’t know one who does. I want one that works by pushing pressurised steam through the ground beans. It doesn’t have to make large amounts of coffee in one go. I have no idea what special features that I will need. I just want a nice cup of filter coffee in the morning.
I’m not familiar with a “steam” process maker, but if you search on line for gourmet coffee makers I’m sure you would find many sizes, etc. Even if you can’t buy on-line you could learn about the different ones and make an educated selection in stores.

Seems very fine ground coffee makes it overflow from the filter basket What brand do you use and does it matter how fine the grounds are?
nope.. actually not. try bringing it to a specialist or to the store where you bought it. if nothing happens replace it with a new one. Click this link.

i’m looking for a filter coffee machine, willing to pay up to a hundred quid (though preferably less!) – a proper one that steams the coffee, like in the coffee shops – not just filter coffee. I dont want one that you have to put those ‘pods’ in either, i want to use my own coffee. i usually drink espresso, latte or capuccino. any recommendations please? anyone bought one they are happy with? thanks very much for any replies
happy to help you find something suitable, although pleased be advised that you will not get what you want for £100, and probably not £200 either may i suggest you try our Swissgold filter if you want to experience great coffee & a cheap blade grinder to introduce you to great coffee at an affordable price great coffee doesnt have to mean espresso, which is a point that is lost on many if you want to go down the espresso route you arent going to get any change from £500 as you need to buy a grinder too if this is beyond your budget i strongly suggest you save up for a little while until you can afford as cheap espresso machines all end up in one place; the bin! feel free to contact us for independent advice without obligation as we are bespoke coffee roasters not equipment suppliers

I want to ask these questions to those people: 1. What brand and model of single-serve coffee brewer do you have? 2. How long have you owned your single-serve coffee brewer? 3. What brand of coffee do you most often brew with your single-serve coffee brewer? 4. On average how many coffee servings (in terms of number of k-cups/t-discs/pods/packs/etc) do you make each day with your single-serve coffee brewer? Is this current daily number of servings significantly more, significantly less, or about the same as the number of servings that you made with the machine in the first few months of owning it? 5. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being completely satisfied and 1 being not at all) how happy are you with your single-serve coffee brewer? 6. Are you considering switching to another type of single-serve coffee brewer? If so which one are you thinking about switching to?
I will tell you that I now have a Keurig single serve that I ABSOLUTELY love! There are three of us out of four in our family that use it every day, sometimes twice. We got it last Christmas and have used it every day since. On a scale of 1 to 10 – I would say 9. There is always room for improvement and the only complaint I have would be the noise it makes while brewing. But that only lasts for a matter of seconds, so it really isn’t bothersome. I order from Green Mountain coffee on-line – monthly delivery. I also have bought k-cups at Kohl’s and JCPenney. During the winter we liked the hot chocolate too. We all agree on the Nantucket Blend from Green Mountain, but I also like the Paul Newman bold. We also get a variety of the flavored ones; blueberry Mountain was a favorite. I previously used the Senseo – which was great at the time because we didn’t know of any other. We got the Keurig as a gift and the Senseo was packed away. The only reason I would get another machine would be if this Keurig stopped working. I don’t know how long they last, but for the price, it it definitely worth it! Like I said, ours was a gift, and it came with 96 k-cups, so we were off and running as soon as we took it out of the box.

I normally drink instant coffee or use tea bags but occasionally buy filter coffee to use in a machine my Mum left me. Yesterday I opened one of my plastic storage jars with a non airtight lid, and found that it contains about half a bagful of filter coffee that I probably put into it at least a year ago. Is it still safe to use it? How long can you keep it in this kind of container?

Roasted coffee goes stale in a week or two, but once ground it goes stale in as little as 20 minutes. All that surface area isn’t good for long-term storage. As the above answer states, it won’t be dangerous to drink (unless it’s covered in mold) but it won’t taste good.

Personally, I’d throw it out to avoid having to live with the memory of the taste.

Putting tea leaves from a teabag into the filter where you would normally put the coffee grounds, in the regular kind of filter coffee machine with a pot and a water reservoir. I’m asking because this seems it could be one of those things that makes perfect logical sense, but in practice goes horribly, horribly wrong.
Pouring boiling water onto tea leaves is one thing, but boiling those leaves is another. For a black tea, it would bring out too many enzymes and give you a bitter brew. As for green tea, the water should only reach 180°.

i was gifted a single serving brewer and i have no idea what kind of pods to buy. i have the black & decker home cafe. are the brands interchangeable or do only certain pods work with certain machines? can you recommend any preferred websites?

the pods should all be the same size. You can find them in any grocery store.

How to create a coffee at home it test like Stratbucks coffee from a Starbacck roasted coffee

I bought a roasted been coffee from Starbucks to make coffee from my home and office. But I tried every thing and could not find the same coffee I drink from their café.
Is that the water, coffee machine, filter or what? Please give me the procedure to create a nice tall coffee looks and feels the real one

Are you referring to just a cup of coffee?

Starbucks taste burnt and bitter to me…
So I’d suggest, pouring a pot’s worth of coffee beans onto a cookie sheet and bake in the oven 375F for 15-30 minutes or until the beans are burnt.

Grind and brew using bottled water..
