Why do I make horrible filter coffee?

Its embaressing but I cant seem to get it right.. but how hard could it be? i mean.. put some brewed coffee and add water and then the machine does all the work but sth is off..

how many spoons of coffee do you put? whats a nice brand of coffee that is not too expensive and doesnt taste awfle?

one more question.. why is coffee alot more popular than Nescafe when its much easier to make and still has the pick me up effect of coffee and almost always tastes good..?

Thanks..

One scoop per cup
Make sure its the right coffee for the use..if you use a Bodum cafetiere it needs to be less fine than if you use a filter.
Biggest mistake: too hot water, basically you are scorching it if you do it directly from the kettle to the coffee..give it a few seconds , like counting to twenty.
Make sure its always fresh water, pour the old one away ( water your plants with it)
If you use a machine descale it once in a while and clean it.

As to Nescafe..life is too short to drink Nescafe…:-)

Maybe you can tell us which method you use so more specific tips can be added

i have this little scooper that holds about 1 tablespoon. i put 1 scoop for every 2 cups of water that i am using. so if i am making 6 cups of coffee then i would use 3 (heaping) tablespoons of coffee. after i insert my filter and then my coffee i also put another filter on top of the coffee. just put it on top the same way you would normally put the filter in. as far as coffee brands go, i usually get maxwell house or folgers depending on whats on sell, and i just use the regular blends or original blends. i also know that when the inside of my coffee maker is not cleaned regularly it can make my coffee taste very bad.

It could be your water. It could be hard with a lot of minerals. Try using a good bottled water and see if that helps. Then too, it could be your coffe pot. I have had some that totally made a cup taste like plastic or something foreign. I finally switched coffee makers and that cured the problem.
You need fresh, cold water, a good brown paper filter, and there is a de-ionization filter that basically filters the extra crap out of the water while brewing.
I have tried a lotta coffees through the years, and have really found that Yuban has made me happy as far as regular brands from the grocers shelves.
I also learned a little trick from an old timer, he took a pinch of salt and basically added it to the top of the coffe ground just before percolating. It takes a lot of the bitterness out of the coffee.
As for measuring your coffee, I usually use 3 spoonfulls (heaping) to an 8 cup level of brew. Good Luck, hope this helps!

Start out with 1 tablespoon of coffee for every 1 cup of water.

Then go from there as to whether you like it stronger or weaker.

I like it twice as strong as that.
